The Right Way to Measuring Windows

"Properly Measuring Windows" is the key factor to "Properly Fitting Roman Shades".

When I measure for roman shades I always take "3" measurements and the type of tape used makes a big difference in that quarter inch space.

I recommend the one below, it is DOUBLE SIDED. What that means is the back of the blade reads exact inside measurements.

Most Important Step Measuring!

Using a double sided tape takes a few minutes to learn to read. But I guarantee when your window treatment is finished you will have exact measurements. I have only found one source for this tape that is the Rowley Company.

Second critical step "3" Measurements

In a perfect world everything would be square, but we do not live in a perfect world. Therefore save your self time and embarrassment, , 3 vertical, (top, middle, bottom) and 3 horizontal,( side, middle, side). "Windows are not square". Let me rephrase that windows may be square and the frames may not.

I have run into situations the window was so out of square we had no other recourse than to make an outside mount shade.

If you have a situation where the frames and window are out of square using the right style roman shade should take care of that problem.

The relaxed roman with extra fullness would be an excellent choice.

When going for the initial measuring windows trip, be mindful of all the possibilities. Sometimes the client will be set on a style for her window treatment and you may have to guide them in a different direction.

Feel comfortable giving advice, muster up your courage. Remember you are the expert; giving good direction for your client now, could prevent a major mistake later.

Roman Shades are expensive make sure your client gets the best window treatment for her money.
